5 Case study 1- Benjy A Care practitioner has taken two teenage service users to a clinic for routine blood tests. One service user, James who was in a hurry and becoming impatient asked his care worker if he could take Benjy’s turn because Benjy. Benjy has severe learning difficulties and would not know he had been kept waiting longer than he should. The Practitioner allowed for James to go first

6 Case Study 2- Rachel A Primary school has updated it’s policy on uniform. The school has decided to ban “cornrow” hairstyles. Rachel has this hairstyle. She received the letter at home and now feels she is unable to attend school and may get turned away in September.

7 Case study 3 Rory is a transsexual individual who has recently applied to take a place for respite care in a residential setting The setting has denied his application on the grounds that they do not think they would be able to accommodate an individual who is transsexual as they “do not have the resources or expertise to manage Rory’s healthcare”.

8 Case study 4- Edith Edith has Dementia and can become aggressive if he’s stressed or anxious. Recently her behaviour has become worse, she’s very anxious and refuses to eat. The care staff don’t seem to know how to deal with her and she’s therefore not getting appropriate care. Edith is often not invited to meals and has these in her room. She has recently not been taken to activities for fear she will upset other service users.
