Los verbos –CAR, -GAR, -ZAR
2
–CAR, -GAR, -ZAR Regular verbs that end in –car, -gar, -zar have a spelling change in the YO form of the preterite so that the sound of the verb stem remains the same.
3
–CAR, -GAR, -ZAR Think about it: Try taking the verb sacar and adding just an é to the root: You get sacé which in Spanish would be pronounced sah-say. Not quite the right sound if the verb you start with is saCAR. If you care. If not, just memorize the changes.
4
–CAR, -GAR, -ZAR SacarC becomes Q Add a u and the preterite é ending Saqué (I took) Pagar G remains G Add a u and the preterite é ending Pagué (I paid) empezar Z becomes C Just add the preterite é ending Empecé (I started)
