Abstract Focus areas of VHT SG Possible targets for VHT SG July 2007
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 July 2007 Abstract Focus areas of VHT SG Possible targets for VHT SG Kakani et al, Nokia John Doe, Some Company
3
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 July 2007 VHT SG – Focus areas VHT SG should look into features in the following focus areas: Throughput : Maximum channel bandwidth ~ 80 MHz and Peak Data Rate atleast 2 Gbps Range - Provide better/higher data rates at longer range than what is available with TGn Power - Power consumption for traffic upload or download should not be more than half of what it would be when using TGn power save features and at the same range Co-existence - WLAN system should be able to operate in 20, 40, 80 MHz mode and should be able to co-exist with legacy devices (802.11b, g, n) in the BSS Kakani et al, Nokia John Doe, Some Company

Specific targets for VHT SG - Throughput
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 July 2007 Specific targets for VHT SG - Throughput Need for 2 Gbps : Primary usage for high bandwidth Home : IPTV Enterprise : Be up to speed with evolution of wired LAN Hotspot : support multiple traffic streams of users Improvement by a factor of ~ 4 over TGn Kakani et al, Nokia John Doe, Some Company
5
Specific targets for VHT SG - Range
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 July 2007 Specific targets for VHT SG - Range Improved data rate at longer range : WLAN is no longer just an indoor technology Home : support for TX/RX of multimedia streams at all corners of the home Hot spot & Enterprise : Deployments in large campuses Target : Provide 100 Mbps at MAC SAP at a range of 100 m (expected to provide a factor of “X” improvement over TGn) Kakani et al, Nokia John Doe, Some Company
6
Specific targets for VHT SG – Co-existence
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 July 2007 Specific targets for VHT SG – Co-existence Should be able to operate in 2.4 and 5 GHz bands : Flexible bandwidth operation : 20, 40, 80 Mhz Co-exist with legacy deployments (11b, 11g, 11n) If VHT ends up in 2.4 GHz band then it should provide mechanisms to co-exist with other technologies in that band (ex: Blue Tooth) Kakani et al, Nokia John Doe, Some Company

Slides for VHT SG - Device capabilities
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 July 2007 Slides for VHT SG - Device capabilities Should support devices that can handle 1 to 6 Spatial Streams : This is already possible already with TGn An AP should be able to support a minimum of 2 antennas and a maximum of 6 antennas A STA can have any where from 1 (power save devices) to 6 antennas Kakani et al, Nokia John Doe, Some Company
