9 Evolutionary Computation Markup Language
A Proposal for IEEE CIS Sponsorship for IEEE Standardization is currently under evaluation from Evolutionary Computation TC

10 TF on New Standards Proposal
Standards Committee TF on New Standards Proposal ECML Standardization Process: TF involved: New Standard Proposal TC involved: ECTC Activities: In order to optimize the ECML workflow, we would like to apply a “pipeline” approach with FML process. In this way, we will use the FML experience for speeding up ECML proposal submission. The PAR for ECML has been proposed. The Sponsorship Motion will be evaluated together with ECTC in June 2013

11 TF on New Standards Proposal
Standards Committee TF on New Standards Proposal ECML PAR (Sections relevant for AdCom voting): 5.2 Scope: The scope of the standard for ECML is primarily to define the various elements for a UML-based language that allows practitioners and researchers to model problem-specific genotypes in order to use evolutionary algorithms without the need to write code in any low-level programming language. This includes the definition of a corresponding XML schema that allows encoding of problem-specific models in a standardized and exchangeable format. 5.4 Purpose: An Evolutionary Computing Modeling Language (ECML) facilitates rapid development of problem solving applications while minimizing the need for low-level programming. In the context of problem solving, specialization is an important issue. ECML allows to incorporate problem-specific information into the genotype models thus allowing suitable solvers to exploit this information in order to more effectively solve a problem at hand. In addition, the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is used to encode ECML genotype models. This facilitates flexibility and exchangeability as one solver can easily be replaced by another as long as it understands ECML. 5.5 Need for the Project: Currently, users of evolutionary algorithms (EAs) need to manually hard-code problem- specific information in order to improve the performance of the EA. Although various EA libraries have been made available in recent years in an attempt to ease the development burden there is still a significant amount of low- level programming that needs to be done. Furthermore, every solver has its own way of encoding and representing genotypes. A standardized modelling language that defines how genotypes are encoded would have several advantages. First, it would make it possible to exchange solvers without having to do any programming (as long as the EA conforms to ECML). Second, a high-level descriptive language would enable the designer to incorporate as much problem-specific information as needed to effectively solve the problem. ECML would effectively separate problem-specific information from the implementation of an EA.
