2
Introduction You are a prospective car buyer, interested in buying a new car. But you are unsure of what type of car or which manufacturer you should buy. You are on a tight budget so cost is an important factor, and gas prices continue to rise so fuel economy is another important detail. Before visiting any car lots you decide to do some research using the internet to compare different car manufacturers.
3
Task Working individually use different car manufacturers websites to find out 4 pieces of information about different types of cars. Record your answers on the Car Research Activity Worksheet. Compare different manufacturers to find out who makes the best car.
4
Process Working individually use the internet to access different auto manufacturers website to locate and record information on different types of cars. These websites are recommended but you may use others… www.ford.com www.toyota.com www.chevrolet.com www.honda.com www.fueleconomy.gov/
5
Process Continued Once you have reached a website find and record the following information. It will help you to decide what car is a better choice. 1.) Manufacturer 2.) Model 3.) MSRP 4.) MPG
6
Manufacturer What is the name of the company that makes the car you are interested in? Examples: Ford, Honda, Chevrolet, Toyota, Subaru, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Nissan…
7
Model What is the name of the specific car you are researching? For example; Chevrolet makes the Silverado truck. Silverado is the model name
8
MSRP Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. How much does this car cost? Aka: starting cost.
9
MPG How many Miles Per Gallon does the car get? Also listed under fuel economy.
10
Process Continued Record that information on the worksheet and use it to help you decide between the two car manufacturers you are comparing.
11
Evaluation Your grade will be based on the completion of the Car Research Activity Work Sheet. Any boxes left empty will result in a 5 point deduction.
12
Conclusion We just choose to purchase automobiles by comparing just two categories, cost and MPG. If this was for real would you use the same categories to compare cars? Or would you choose different ones? Would looks and the cool factor outweigh make up for a lacking in other categories? What do you need from a car to make you want to drive it?
