Rough, spherically shaped Located in central region Two major functions Contains only 1 nucleus Fungi may have several nuclei

Parts of the Nucleus Nuclear envelope: 2 pospholipid bilayer membranes
Nuclear pores: shallow depressions Nucleolus: produces ribosomes by protein synthesis Chromosomes: in forms of DNA Chromatin: proteins in a complex structure

Krabbe Disease Rare and Inherited Presence of globoid cells
Impairs the growth or development of the myelin sheath Cause severe damage of mental and motor skills Affects infants before 6 months, but can occur in adolescence or adulthood Fatal before age 2 No cure
