What is the political liberty he describes? How do you achieve that? How does he divide up power? Think of in the United States checks that powers have on each other. Rousseau “Social Contract” What “association” is described in paragraphs 2 and 3? What is the fundamental problem that the social contract solves? What does man gain by submitting to this “association”? What is the “double relation” described? Montesquieu “Of the Laws in General” Why are laws “necessary relations”? What does he mean by “adapted…to the people for whom they are framed? Do you think he believes in universal rights? Explain.
