1
Admissions of Three Year Olds
Proposed approach from September 2011
2
Aim Maximise the take-up of early education through co-operation between providers and parents to meet the needs of individual children, and ensure sustainability of good quality provision
3
Principles Needs of the child come first:
continuity of experience is fundamental to obtaining good learning outcomes All children will benefit from good quality early education our target is to maximise take-up Parents have a right to chose and should therefore be given full and clear information There should be a level playing field between different types of provision i.e. childminders, playgroups, day nurseries and schools
4
Proposed Model Children’s Centres write out to all parents
Providers promote their delivery of NEG Parents put children’s names down All providers share registration lists Outreach to target children without a place All admit half termly before headcount All refer children without places to Children’s Centre for brokerage support
5
Golden Rules Parents have the right to chose
There will be a setting for every child – but not every setting suits every child Prioritise local children, and oldest first No waiting lists for local children Working together means better outcomes for children
