5 Ming Dynasty Kublai dies, 1294. Series of weak rulers.
Too much spent on foreign conquests, officials stealing.

6 Rise of Ming 1368 – Zhu Yuanzhang becomes emperor. (Hong Wu)
Founded Ming dynasty. 300years. Wu – harsh leader, punished disloyal. Died in 1398. Son – Yong Le becomes emperor moves capital to Beijing. Built Forbidden City.

Used census to count people, collect taxes. With peace and security econ. and agric. thrived. Rebuilt roads, the Great Wall and the Grand Canal.

Printed books and theater popular.

Ming emperors sent fleet to trade, show power.1400’s Zheng He led the voyages.

Expanded China’s trade and spread culture. Some felt voyages were too costly. 1433 Voyages ended. (Barbarians)
