Review basic names, properties and areas of polygons.
Polygon Review Review basic names, properties and areas of polygons.

Homework IXL Review for this unit

Triangles 3 sided, closed polygons

Types Right Has one right angle Acute Has one acute angle Obtuse Has one obtuse angle Scalene No sides are the same length Isosceles 2 sides are the same length (congruent) Equilateral all sides are the same length (congruent)

Properties All angles add to 180 degrees Right angle is 90 degrees Acute angle is less than 90 degrees Obtuse angle between 90 and 180 Supplementary two angles add to 180 degrees Each vertex has an exterior and an interior angle associated with it, they are always supplementary Vertices Corners of the triangle

Perimeter and Area Perimeter Sum of all 3 sides Area base * height / 2 Height is always perpendicular to the base (forms right angles) Height is not always the side of the triangle Base is not always the bottom side of triangle Height could be outside the triangle

Quadrilaterals 4 sided closed polygons

Main types Parallelogram Opposite sides parallel Rectangle Opposite sides parallel and 4 right angles Rhombus Opposite sides parallel and 4 congruent sides Square 4 right angles 4 congruent sides Trapeziod 1 pair of parallel sides Kite 2 pairs of consecutive sides congruent

Properties Opposite sides congruent parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus Opposite angles congruent Consecutive angles supplementary Trapezoid Legs are non parallel sides and angles on these legs are supplementary Kite Angles formed by non congruent sides are congruent All interior angles add up to 360 All exterior angles add up to 360

Perimeters Add up all the sides Parallelogram and rectangle 2(L+W) or 2L+2W Square and Rhombus 4s Trapezoid Add all sides, base1 + base2 + leg1 + leg2 Kite 2(side1 + side2)

Areas Can always divide up into triangles and find the area of all triangles and then add them together Parallelogram, Rectangle, Rhombus base * height Square side * side or sided squared Trapezoid (base1 +base2)*height / 2 Kite easiest 2 triangles (diagonal1 * diagonal2) / 2

Other Polygons 5 or more sided polygons

Common Polygons Pentagon 5 sides, angles add to 540 Hexagon 6 sides, angles add to 720 Heptagon 7 sides Octagon 8 sides, angles add to 1080 Regular polygon all sides are congruent and all angles are congruent

Perimeter and area Usually deal with regular polygons Perimeter = numbers of sides * length of sides Area = break into shapes you can find the area of Will get more in depth in Geometry

Homework Triangles Quadrilaterals Polygons Perimeter Area
