3 What is a plural noun? A noun names more than one. They are usually formed by adding or to the singular noun. Singular: Plural: plural -S -ES student bench hotel truth truths students benches hotels

What is a verb? An ACTION VERB shows action. It shows what a noun is doing. Fill in the following sentence with an action verb: I is the noun, and the verbs are showing what the I is doing. I can___________________. run listen jump laugh sing dance

What is a LINKING verb? A verb connects the subject, which is always a or , to another word that identifies or describes the subject. Linking verbs are most commonly different forms of the verb “to be.” am, are, is, was, were, be, being, been EXAMPLE: Laura is sweet. 9 What is a HELPING verb? A HELPING VERB always accompanies another type of verb and is never found by itself but usually is paired with a linking or action verb. (Hence the word HELP) The role of a helping verb is to give the main verb special meaning or a time frame (tense). The most common helping verbs are can, could, do, did, has, had, have, may, might, must, shall, should, will and would. . EXAMPLE: Aardvark, my neighbor, has been playing his music too loudly. He decides to stick to soccer. Sara could take more units, or she could get a part-time job to help pay for educational expenses. The public listens with great interest. Fall is my favorite season because of the cool weather. My sister-in-law writes novels and short stories, and she has become famous because of them.

11 WARM UP: Decide whether the CAPITALIZED word is a noun or a verb.
