2
Introductions Please make a name tag with: bleckinger.weebly.com
Your name Draw something you are good at or enjoy bleckinger.weebly.com Physics 2.6 Electricity and electromagnetism
3
AS2.6 Chemical Reactivity
Rates of Reaction Equilibrium Acids and Bases
4
Collision Theory Molecules need to collide with enough energy AND in the correct orientation in order for a reaction to occur
5
Rates of Reaction Factors that affect the Rate of Reaction
Temperature Concentration Catalyst Surface Area How do each of these relate to Collision Theory?
6
Tomorrows Experiment Hydrochloric acid reacts with sodium thiosulfate to produce a cloudy white precipitate. You and a partner will be investigating the effect of either temperature or concentration on reaction rate. Key focus will be on data collection and presentation (data table and graph to show trend).
7
Instructions for Lab Concentration Temperature
You will be given 0.2M Na2S2O3 and 2M HCl Reduce the concentration of one reactant to get at least 5 data points. Ex: 0.2, 0.16, Temperature You will be given 0.05M Na2S2O3 and 2M HCl Use a water bath to increase the temperature incrementally to get at least 5 data points Ex: 30, 40, 50...
8
Example Table Concentration of reactant X (or) Temp of reactants Variable 1 Var 2 Var 3 Var 4 Var 5 Trial 1 Trial 2 Trial 3 Average time in Seconds When you are finished testing, plot your results on a graph with time on the X axis Be prepared to share your results
9
Daily Warm Up Define/explain Collision Theory in your own words
10
Daily Warm Up List four factors that can effect the rate of a chemical reaction Pick one factor and use collision theory to explain how that factor effects the rate of reaction
