What exactly are effective finances?
Having effective finances essentially means that you are strategically raising and allocating funds to support the workshops and events that you plan to hold throughout the year to support the NSBE mission.

What does it take to have effective finances?
A thorough budget for your projected financial interactions at the start of each year Creative fundraising ideas that would bring in revenue Clear methods to communicate with your university and corporate sponsors to secure funding Chapter Relief utilization

Creating your budget Tip #1: Look over past budgets and consult previous board members to get an idea of what the budget usually looks like Tip #2: Plan your year to get an idea of how much money you will need to successfully facilitate desired events and workshops Tip #3: Reach out to university resources (i.e. School of Engineering, diversity assistance programs) Tip #4: Think of creative fundraisers you can host to go about securing these funds Tip #5: Reach out to corporations to see if they would be willing to partner with your chapter and sponsor some of these events

Utilizing university resources and corporate partnerships

University Resources There are most likely departments on your campus that have funding they can set aside to support your chapter. It is important that you approach and utilize all possible avenues. Draft up a letter that can be sent out to the different departments on your campus stating your purpose for fundraising and the specific help you are requesting from them.

Corporate Partnerships
Corporate partners are a great resource to get the funding you need to hold your events Start by reaching out to any previous connections your chapter may have from the past Find out the companies that are in your area and try to get contacts for the diversity and inclusion representatives Send out grant proposals detailing your event and what type of assistance you are looking for

Hello XXXX, I hope all is well! My name is Tolu Familoni and I am the region 6 finance chair for I am contacting you today to hopefully re-kindle the relationship between XXXX and Region VI of the National Society of Black Engineers! Region VI boasts of diverse talent looking to connect with innovative and cutting-edge organizations like your own. I would like to formally invite you to discuss possible partnership opportunities with NSBE for this year's annual Regional Leadership Conference (RLC), which will be held in Seattle, Wa from August 10th - August 12th, 2018. Our members would love to see XXXXXX represented at the conference. The RLC is our second largest regional event and it is geared towards enriching the leadership skills of our officers at the chapter level. It provides companies an opportunity to recruit a diverse talent pool of leaders, increase visibility, and/or community outreach. We are expecting around 100 attendees for this years conference and are confident that a partnership with you would be mutually beneficial. If interested, I would be more than happy to chat with you to answer some of your questions and/or discuss the different opportunities available at the conference. What is chapter relief? Dedicated funds in Regional Budget to allocate to chapters for: Funding towards attending conferences i.e. Travel expenses, registration waivers Regional Chapter Relief RLC & FRC ONLY $10,300 for the entire year National Chapter Relief Annual Convention ONLY Tentatively released in October

Released months prior to a conference 2. Apply before deadline (includes submission of budget) 3. Awardance Letter or Declination 4. Provide Need Information to Treasurer

Chapter Relief - Requirements and Criteria
Can only be rewarded to a chapter once per fiscal year Must Meet Requirements - General: Active chapter status or reactivation plan Current financial status Submit a sample budget for the event Submit 3 activity reports to NSBE Activities Report Fundraising Efforts FRC Specific Requirements - 2 Competitions (4 total members)
