Performance – 30% Two recordings: one solo piece and one piece as part of an ensemble Together your pieces should last at least four minutes On the course we will: Develop advanced practising techniques Take part in masterclass and attend concerts Provide performance opportunities ….to help you move up two grades by the time we reach Year 11 We will set you the challenge of moving up 2 Grades/equivalent Your own chosen instrument/voice Could be different instruments/voice Could be a cappella

Composition – 30% One composition to a set brief, one of… Vocal Music
Instrumental Music 1700–1820 Music for Stage and Screen Fusions One composition in a style of your choice you have flexibility over what instruments your write for (or would you write for voices?) Together both pieces should last more than three minutes We have composed in class using chord sequences, some of you have worked with Aga. We will do some analysis so the bits you love of music you listen to, you can figure out how done and use the same techniques in your own music. We will be looking at how chords move to create harmonies that work and look at how to create different moods and effects in music. You don’t have to perform what you have composed yourself. We will get in professionals to perform compositions, helping you with with the planning stages.

Vocal Music (music by Purcell, Queen) Instrumental Music 1700–1820 (music by Beethoven and Bach) Music for Stage and Screen (Star Wars, Wicked) Fusions (inc. Irish/African/Jazz fusions) Show off what you know about the piece, get to know the music inside out. We will teach you how to show off what you know and write the answers examiners want to hear.
