2
Role of Experiences in the Development of the Human Spirit
Need to show analysis in conference: EX. Moishe beginning of Night Wasn’t camp that crushed his experience, but that Jews didn’t believe him. Possibly shows harsh physical experiences don’t necessarily crush spirit as much as betrayal/non-acceptance from peers. Harsh experiences from camp destroyed his spirit. Painful experiences hurt make us depressed and take away our happiness.
3
Bias Bias is not the events, but the writer’s style.
Need to look at type of language used and Frequency. Descriptive vs. General Words. High Diction vs. Lower or Middle. Variation in detail/explanation quality. Rhetorical devices used for emphasis or exaggeration in specific parts. Authors stating opinions about events explicitly in their writing.
4
Bias EX. “They were the first faces of death”
Author uses this metaphor to emphasize the brutality and pain caused by the Hungarian police evicting the Jews. This metaphor exaggerates the painfulness of the experience equating it to “death” as a whole, a much more final end than the evictions.
