Algebra Into the Unknown
3rd Grade Math: Algebra Into the Unknown Students are introduced to basic algebraic concepts including equations, variables, patterns and functions. This month students are writing and solving their own equations. 3rd Grade ELA: Students will be finishing the study of Ancient Greece with a Greek Party and post test. The creation story behind myths and the Titans will lead to an in depth study of Greek gods and goddesses. Myths read will include Persephone and Daedalus and Icarus by the end of the month. PAGE’s goals are to: strengthen communications; continue to host enrichment events for all grades; support gifted teachers and programs; and to support Guilford County School’s updated AIG Plan development. 4th Grade Math: Geometry Challenge 5th Grade Math: Piece By Piece
4th Grade ELA Students will continue to read about heroes concentrating on everyday heroes with the study of Christa McAuliffe. We will also read a short story titled the Last Leaf by O’ Henry . We will discuss irony and the heroism in Mr. Behrman. We will also use the opportunity to learn about O’ Henry and his Greensboro roots. By the end of the month we will begin the heroes in mythology unit. 4th Grade Math: Geometry Challenge Students will dive deeper into key geometry terms being taught in the classroom through drawing, describing and analyzing. Students are working on completing pictures while analyzing line, rays, angles, and intersecting lines. 5th Grade Math: Piece By Piece This unit invites students to think visually about fractions. Students will create visual, numeric, and algebraic representations to explore equivalence and problem solve fractions. 5th Grade ELA: Students will discover lyrical poetry through the study of contemporary music by Idina Menzel, Lin Manual Miranda, and Pharrell Williams. We will finish up our poetry unit with a scavenger hunt review, post test and student created poem about their lives using only 30 words. IT IS A CHALLENGE EVEN IF YOU ARE ONLY 11! Why do people wear shamrocks on St. Patrick’s Day? Regular rocks are too heavy.
