Single and Multi-Celled Organisms
By: Mr. Yust
2
Single-Celled Organisms
Range greatly in size: 1 micron (bacteria) to 100 microns (protozoans) Very Diverse: the structures and functions of each organism are very different
3
Single Celled Organisms….. Different Types
Amoeba Algae E. coli All kinds of molds
4
What is an Amoeba? A single cell organism that has no definite form.
Can be either aquatic or parasitic Moves around by attaching itself to a pseudopod
5
What is Algae? Aquatic organisms that contain one cell.
Algae can also contain more than one cell. -Why wouldn’t they be classified as a plant then?
6
What is E. coli? Normally found in human intestines.
E.coli infections come from: Eating undercooked ground beef (the inside is pink) Drinking contaminated (impure) water Drinking unpasteurized (raw) milk Working with cattle
7
Multi-Cellular Organisms
Multi-Cellular organisms contain more than one cell. Much larger then single-celled organisms and can be seen with the naked eye.
8
Multi-Cellular Organisms Continued…….
All plants and animals are multi-celled organisms. All plants and animals are made up of differentiated cells. Differentiated cells are a group of cells that work together and form tissue.
