My Philosophy on Texting
In my opinion, there should be boundaries set when it comes to student/teacher text messaging. Students and teachers should only be communicating about school related issues via school or other online tools for the classroom. Although some teachers want to be easily accessible, some open up too much to their students, making them vulnerable to other conversation. Personally, I will only give my phone number to the parents or guardians of my students, to call me in the event of an emergency or if they have questions on the student’s progress. Teachers also have to keep in mind that their job, reputation and sometimes your life is in danger and should act accordingly to maintain their position.

Plagiarism/ Copyright Issues
A graduating senior at Rutgers New Brunswick was accused of plagiarism on her final paper, after she claimed that something went wrong with the plagiarism detection website TurnItIn. She was not allowed to argue her side of the story and was found guilty, receiving an "F" and lost her degree in communications. My Philosophy on Plagiarism
In my opinion, plagiarism is wrong but everyone does it. It happens so much that people think that it is acceptable and they won't get caught. However, there are proper ways to cite information you use and a limit to how much of someone else's work you can use. Students should not be extremely penalized if they only used one or two sentences and paraphrase, because majority of the work is theirs. They should penalized if majority of the work is from an outside source and is not cited.

Facebook/ Social Media
In New York, a teacher befriended quite a few of the female students, writing inappropriate comments on students walls and under photos they posted. The teacher was fired and labeled as a sex offender.

My Philosophy on Facebook/ Social Media
In my opinion, teachers should not accept friend request from students until students are of legal age. I am friends with a few of my old teachers on Facebook but, I was not allowed to befriend them until I graduated high school. I only use them as references or for advice on how to better myself as a teacher. We have casual conversation but they never go further than "how's school going?", "do you need anything?" or "is there anything I can do to help?." There are limits to teacher-student interaction.

Cyberbullying 12 year old, Rebecca Sedwick, ended her life, jumping off of an concrete plant, after being cyber bullied by over 15 girls at her school. The girls would post harassing comments to Rebecca asking her to "Go kill herself" and "why she was still alive?" Two of the girls involved were arrested after her death. My Philosophy on Cyberbullying
In my opinion, cyber bullying can be avoided to an extent. Parents should be monitoring what the child engages in while using technology. There should be certain restrictions put in place when it comes to minors and social media apps. Some children go behind their parents back and get social media without them knowing and most of the time turns out bad. Parents need parental controls to monitor how long children are on these apps and show exactly what they are doing on them. Most of the time cyberbullying is brought to school with the students. As teachers, the first time you witness bullying of any sort you should shut it down and make sure it doesn't continue to happen or escalate to anything detrimental.
