Image analysis and HER-2/neu slide scoring. Interobserver variability among 10 pathologists reviewing the same 130 HER-2/neu immunostained slides. Concordance with gene amplification status, assessed by FISH, is plotted on the y-axis. Slides assessed as 2+ or 3+ were called positive. Manual assessment showed significant interobserver variability, while assessment with the aid of image analysis showed little variability. Additionally all pathologists improved their concordance with the aid of image analysis. Jeffrey S. Ross et al.
