WHY? STOP AIDS NOW! Youth Participation (SYP) Model

6 P4Y Vision “Youth with alternative care experience have equal opportunities to develop, to be a voice and to make changes through involvement, empowerment and support.”

7 Diversity of opinions, backgrounds, and persons
Our 5 Core Values: Diversity of opinions, backgrounds, and persons Participation of youth in Power4Youth. We believe in stakeholder participation in all levels of alternative care. Commitment to active co-operation with stakeholders in the field of alternative care, recognising UNCRC & Q4C. Inspiration We strive for inspiration of, and by Power4Youth in pursuit of our Vision. Accountability transparency, trustworthiness and sustainability

8 ? So what is “youth participation”?

9 Meaningful youth participation is:
“taking time to really listen to youth voices, consulting with them as valued stakeholders and involving them at all levels of decision making.”

10 's Three Guiding Principles
1: A young person is a young person before they are a young person in care. 2: Youth participation isn't offering a seat at the table, but also creating the environment and atmosphere where youth participation is valued. 3: Participation is a dialogue; a two way conversation, not only a facilitation. Be prepared to listen (and change) if you are asking for their opinion! Let them know what to expect

11 Process of Youth Participation: Peer-to-peer Learning
Peer to peer learning is the only way forward- creating a wave of change- an investment in time. Preparation, evalu-action, follow up

12 MAIN MESSAGE: Invest in youth!
Participation is to always be: to their benefit outside of any agenda supporting their full potential and offering to them opportunities for self development and growth.
