Highlights from Presentation 1 “ITU-D inter-sector activities”
All Sectors of the ITU are active in promoting IMT-2000 ITU-R WP 8F & ITU-T SSG: Handbook: Deployment of IMT-2000 Systems; in addition to technical work ITU-T SSG: 2 prior IMT-2000 Workshops; seminars ITU-D: World Telecommunication Development Conference , Istanbul, Mar 2002 Resolution 43 (“Assistance in Implementing IMT 2000”) ITU-D Q.18/2 (“Strategy for migration of mobile networks to IMT-2000 and beyond”): Mid Term Guidelines Promotion of IMT-2000, especially in "developing" countries 5/13/2019
4
Highlights from Presentation 2 “Mobile Access Issues”
TD-SCDMA: ITU recognized IMT-2000 radio technology Status: successful Network Acceptance tests high speed (125km/hr), long range (>20km) video transmission; data to 384 Kbps TD-SCDMA Alliance (vendors) and Forum (vendors and operators): local and global membership supported by 3 Chinese Ministries (SDPC, MII and MOST) focus: further technology, promote TD-SCDMA China mobile market has overtaken USA TD-SCDMA technology will be major player in providing a cost-effective evolution path from to IMT-2000 5/13/2019
5
Highlights from Presentation 3 “Looking Beyond Network Boundaries”
People value multimedia, security, personalization, mobility Simplify the network: eliminate boundaries & distinctions To make real: blend user devices (PC, PDA, phone), use a unified user profile, a single address to reach the user Operator becomes ultimate single point of contact for user Single phone number/address used to contact a person Receiving party decides where to answer the call: mobile phone / PDA / PC / wireline phone 5/13/2019
6
Highlights from Presentation 4 “Requirements and Architecture for Beyond 3G mobile Communication Networks” Requirements to support virtual presence, rich content, invisible support: 1: huge multimedia traffic handling 2: accommodate diverse wireless access 3: advanced mobility management 4: seamless/ubiquitous services 5: applications services support Must make mobility a base capability Evolve to Plug ’n’ Play diverse radio technologies on a converged Mobile Network/Internet 5/13/2019
7
Overview of issues in the session
IMT-2000 promises a great deal: today, as it evolves, and in “systems beyond” promotion is essential to creating awareness, transferring knowledge, global deployment radio technologies will evolve, improve network must be able to deal with heterogeneous access and user devices: seamless user experience operator will be ultimate single point of contact for user mobility must become a base capability Transformation of the network is key 5/13/2019
8
Recommendations Increase focus on the evolution of the “core network”
mobility as a base capability single phone number/address to contact a person blend user devices: mobile phone / PDA / PC / wireline phone Transform the network dynamic packet/optical network secure multimedia services ubiquitous broadband integrated functionality 5/13/2019
9
Follow-up actions Solicit greater operator involvement
set the requirements for the seamless end user service experience ultimate single point of contact for user Increase focus on access independence support heterogeneous radio access technologies Seamless user experience: increase focus on convergence wireline and wireless networks are converging increase focus on internetworking, internetwork mobility management 5/13/2019
10
Conclusion Core Network is an essential and major component for providing services, sometimes overlooked due to the emphasis placed on radio technologies and spectrum issues Converged Core Network will evolve to become access independent, provide mobility as a basic capability Greater attention needs to be paid to the long term (NGN): where are we going how are we going to get there how do we leverage the existing infrastructure 5/13/2019
