Geometry 3.5 Continued Partitioning a directed line segment EQ: How do you partition directed line segments?

Geometry 3.5 Parallel & Perpendicular Lines in the Coordinate Plane
Partitioning a line segment… is dividing the segment into two pieces where the lengths of each segment can be written as a ratio. EX: Find the coordinates of point P along the directed line segment AB so that the ratio of AP to PB is 3 to 2. Since the desired ratio is 3 to 2, think of dividing the segment into 5 sections (3+2) where AP represents 3 parts and PB represents 2 parts. Point P will be 3/5 of the way from point A to B. Find the slope and leave in terms of rise/run. To find where Point P is located, find 3/5 of the rise and 3/5 of the run. 3 P 6 3.6 Point P is left 1.8 and up 3.6 from (3,2) 1.8 Point p is (4.8, 5.6) May 13, 2019 Geometry 3.5 Parallel & Perpendicular Lines in the Coordinate Plane

You try it. Find the coordinates of point P along the directed line segment AB so that AP to PB is the given ratio. A(1,3), B(8,4); 4 to 1 Slope = 1/7 May 13, 2019 Geometry 3.5 Parallel & Perpendicular Lines in the Coordinate Plane
