Process by which we perceive and respond to certain events, called stressors, that we appraise as threatening or challenging. Health psychology Subfield of psychology that focuses on how stress affects well-being and health. Answer the following questions on your Do Now How are stress and illness related? How do our perceptions of stress affect our health? Can we control our reactions to stress? What behaviors and attitudes help prevent health problems?

Stressful General Adaptation Syndrome Burnout
Hans Selye’s concept of the body’s adaptive response to stress in three stages—alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. Burnout Physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion brought on by persistent job-related stress. Resulting in: Depression Decreased performance or productivity Cynicism

Personality Types Type A:
Term for competitive, hard-driving, impatient, verbally aggressive, and anger-prone people. Type B: Term for easygoing, relaxed people
