Unit One Review

Format 15 Multiple Choice 10 True or False
Short Answer (worth 5 marks each, choice from six questions) Long answer (10 marks): Question provided Total: 50 marks

Marking Hypothetical answer to the question: “Do you think aliens are visiting our planet? Why?” What follows are samples of answers to that question, and the answers they would receive.

5 marks There may be aliens somewhere in space, but they’re probably not coming to Earth. The Drake equation tells us that there should be thousands of civilizations out there. But the Fermi Paradox points out that, if there are thousands of civilizations, it’s concerning that they’re so quiet. We haven’t heard radio signals or seen any kind of evidence that aliens have come to Earth that can’t be explained away through other means (like the weather balloon in Roswell). So spacefaring civilizations must be more rare or distant than we think.
