Series Circuits Makeup Lab
2
Before you start Obtain a copy of the lab handout from your teacher. Then, use the following slides to make observations and record the data. Be sure to read the procedure as you are looking through this presentation. Use this data to perform the calculations and answer questions. You have two days for every day you were absent to complete and turn in this lab.

4
Step 1 Here is the basic circuit with a 20Ω resistor without the multimeter attached.
5
Step 1 The multimeter is now attached in series with the resistor to measure the current running through the resistor. The current is shown in Amps (A).
6
Step 1 The multimeter is now attached in parallel with the resistor to measure the voltage running through the resistor. The voltage is shown in Volts (V).
7
Step 2 The circuit is now modified and contains two 20Ω resistors in series and a switch to turn the circuit on and off.
8
Step 2 Do numbers 2 and 3 in step 2 before moving on.
9
Step 2 The current measurement at position A1 is shown below.
10
Step 2 The current measurement at position A2 is shown below.
11
Step 2 The current measurement at position A3 is shown below.
12
Step 2 The voltage measurement at position V1 is shown below.
13
Step 2 The voltage measurement at position V2 is shown below.
14
Step 2 The voltage measurement at position V3 is shown below.
15
Step 3 Perform step 3 based on your data so far.
16
Step 4 A circuit is set up with 3 resistors. R1 is 10-Ω, R2 is 20-Ω, and R3 is 33-Ω.
17
Step 4 The total voltage, V4, across the entire circuit is shown below.
18
Step 4 Perform questions 9 and 10 before moving on.
19
Step 5 The current at position A1 is shown below.
20
Step 5 The current at position A2 is shown below.
21
Step 5 The current at position A3 is shown below.
22
Step 5 The voltage at position V1 is shown below.
23
Step 5 The voltage at position V2 is shown below.
24
Step 5 The voltage at position V3 is shown below.

That’s it! Perform the remaining parts of the lab on your own.
You have two days for each day you were absent to complete the lab sheet for this lab. You need to perform all calculations showing all of your work and answer the questions in complete sentences. If you have any questions, see your physics teacher for help.
