RNA, Ribosomes, And Protein synthesis
The genetic code
2
Types of RNA and Functions
mRNA - Messenger RNA: Encodes amino acid sequence of a polypeptide. tRNA - Transfer RNA: Brings amino acids to ribosomes during translation. rRNA - Ribosomal RNA: With ribosomal proteins, makes up the ribosomes, the organelles that translate the mRNA.
3
Protein Synthesis – RNA Translation
Codons are a group of three nucleotide bases in mRNA that “code” for a specific amino acid to be incorporated into a protein. tRNA contains anticodons, which are three nucleotide bases that are complementary to a codon on mRNA. Promoters are specific codons that start or stop transcription or translation. During translation polypeptide chains are formed to create a protein. Basic Advanced
