4 II. Moses A. Many Hebrews had settled in
Egypt (possibly due to famine) B. Pharaoh feared Hebrews & enslaved them C. God told Moses to lead Hebrews out of slavery & Egypt

5 D. Pharaoh refused & plagues struck
Egypt E. Pharaoh then agreed & Moses led them out (journey called the Exodus)

6 III. Law A. Hebrews wandered desert & came to Mount Sinai
B. God gave Moses Ten Commandments: code of morals & laws C. Hebrews agreed to worship only one god, monotheism

7 IV. Return to Canaan A. Jews wandered for 40 years B. Became known as Israelites when settled back in Canaan C. Lived in small, scattered villages with no central gov.
