Third Grade Paw Prints September Edition Woodward Mill Elementary 2020 Buford Dr. Lawrenceville, GA NOTES FROM THIRD GRADE TEAM: Picture Day Come dressed for success for picture day on Monday, September 10th. Testing Our first standardized test will be the Cognitive Abilities Test (COGAT). It is scheduled for the week of Sept. 17th-21st. Please make every attempt to schedule appointments outside of those dates. It is important for the students to have a healthy breakfast and a full night’s sleep each day of testing. Thanks! Awards Reminder The end of 9 weeks for Principals and A/B Honor Roll will be paper awards passed out in Friday Folders. The end of the second quarter and fourth quarter (January and May) will be at school for Principals and A/B Honor Roll. Student must also hold an E or S in conduct and all specials. If an N or U is received they are not eligible for awards. Midterms Please review your child’s grades with him or her, then sign the midterm and send it back in the Friday folder. Thanks! Important Dates Sept 10- Picture Day Sept 12- Cub Scout Registration 7 pm Sept 13- Skate Night 6:30 pm Sept CogAT testing Sept 21- Movie Night Sept 24- Girl Scout Info meeting 6:00 pm Sept 27- Book Fair starts and Literacy/Tech Night 7pm CURRICULUM NEWS Language Arts: We will continue working on grammar with nouns and pronouns. We will be comparing complete sentences and sentence fragments. In word study, we will complete units three and four. Our focus will be on words that the prefix –un and –re. In reading, we will study characterization, inferencing, realism, fantasy, and the author’s purpose. Opinion, narrative and a research writing piece will be practiced in writing. Math: Base ten, Data, Multiplication and Division relationships will be practiced. Please continue to practice multiplication math facts at home and review fluency with addition and subtraction. Social Studies: We will finish our study of maps and begin discussing democracy, and the life of Paul Revere. Science: Habitats will be completed and tested, then we will spend the rest of the nine weeks learning about the environment and types of pollution. Health: Our focus will be on safety and good health habits, like the importance of proper diet and exercise.
