9-20-17 Quiz and Repetition/Replication Activity Day 1
2
Do Now Prepare for the quiz. Set up your privacy folders
Sharpen your pencils, put away everything except your pencil and a silent reading book Set up your privacy folders
3
Quiz Retake If you do not want to take the retake quiz, your original quiz score will be used. Students who did not complete the required Additional Targeted Practice worksheet will not be able to retake the quiz today. If you do complete the additional targeted practice at a later time, you can arrange a time to retake the quiz. Students who are not taking the quiz retake must silently read during the quiz.
4
Quiz Instructions 15 minutes to complete the quiz.
Read the directions carefully. No talking No getting up without permission Keep your eyes on your own work When you are finished, raise your hand and Mr. Santos will come to collect your quiz. Then, silently read.

Repetition/Replication Exit Ticket Review
Tom measured the distance of a ramp. He then rolled a marble down the inclined surface ten times and recorded the time it took the marble to reach the bottom. A scientist discovered a new substance that cured diabetes in a rat. This substance was tested by 100 other scientists with the same result. Lizzette is investigating the effects of sunlight on plant growth. Every day for 2 weeks she puts a plant outside for 10 hours. She measures the plant's height daily at noon and records the data in her journal. Jerry bounces a ball, dropping it from the same height and using the same force each time. He does this on a flat concrete surface 3 times and records how high the ball bounced each time in his notebook. He then repeats the experiment on a carpeted surface and a dirt surface, each time doing 3 trials. Kurex Labs is testing a new cancer medication in the United States, Italy, and China. Each testing facility will provide 100 patients with the new treatment for 3 months. Lab personnel will document the medication's effectiveness. REPETITION REPLICATION REPETITION REPETITION BOTH

Repetition/Replication Activity: How Far or Fast Can You Roll a Ball?
Day 1
7
Introduction You are going to have a contest to see which group can roll a tennis ball the farthest or which group can roll a tennis ball the fastest. The class will be divided into groups of 3-4 students. Half of the groups will test rolling the tennis ball the farthest and the other half will test rolling the tennis ball the fastest.
8
Activity Overview You will have to create the following:
materials list procedure for experiment data table to record data (will also need a duplicate data table). Once all testing is finished, they will have other groups performing their same experiment. You will be given a ball and timer (if needed). You can use other materials in the classroom (must be approved) or use any materials from home (must be approved). You are not allowed to push the ball, the ball will have to roll on its own. You must take an average of your data and must have a minimum of 3 trials.
9
Day 1 Instructions Brainstorm to determine a design on how you will test their experiment. Start creating your materials list, procedure, and data table on paper. Produce a duplicate data table that will be used to collect data and this data table will be will be turned into the teacher at the end of Day 2.
