1 ILL 101: How to Use Your Interactive Learning Log
Panther Science

2 What is an ILL? It is a working portfolio (all of your notes, classwork, etc.) in one convenient spot! It is an individual, personalized notebook that allows you to record and process information in an engaging manner.

3 Why do we use an ILL? It allows you to process and retain concepts more easily! You can use it to thoroughly review for quizzes and tests! It helps you keep track of your assignments, homework and class work on a daily basis! It serves as a study tool for the EOGs!

4 There’s something for everyone!!!
Why do we use an ILL? Best of all… The ILL allows you to personalize your learning experiences by having a way to reflect thoughtfully, creatively, and individually! I like music! I like to draw! I like to write poetry! There’s something for everyone!!!

5 How does the ILL work? LEARNING! Items on the right are…
RECEIVED …from the teacher or text. Items on the left show the student’s . . . LEARNING!

6 Glue it on the “RIGHT” side!
Right is for receiving the content! The right side “belongs” to Mrs. Wilson. I choose what goes on the right side. These pages will be numbered!!! (1, 2, 3, 4, 5…) The right side has information that all students must know for tests/quizzes.

7 Glue it on the “RIGHT” side!
ALWAYS start the page with the date, page title, and page number at the top of the page.

8 For example… NOTES GIVEN BY THE TEACHER WORKSHEETS DONE IN CLASS
RESOURCE/ INFORMATION PAGES NOTES TAKEN DURING VIDEOS

9 To the left, to the left… The left side is where you show learning.
The left side belongs to YOU! The left side is where you record your PROCESSING of the notes, handouts, etc. provided by the teacher. These pages will NOT be numbered!! (They will be labeled on your TOC with a P for Processed) Simply writing down notes does NOT mean that you have learned the information.

10 To the left, to the left… Left Side Reflections must take up at least ¾ of the page. The LEFT side is used for your interaction with the information using pictures, graphs, etc. to remember information go on left hand side. Every left side page gets used! ALWAYS USE AT LEAST 4 COLORS, because colors help the brain learn and organize information.

11 Create an acrostic poem!
Write a short story! Create an acrostic poem! For Example… Create a timeline of events! Create a playlist and CD cover!

12 Maintaining your Learning Log
Glue everything down as soon as you get it! Update your table of contents regularly! Be gentle when placing your ILL in your locker so the edges don’t get mangled! No doodling that doesn’t relate to notes! No ripped out pages or torn corners! Treat it like a fragile little baby.

13 Gluing Pages Into Your ILL
For single sided sheets, glue the corners and a spot in the middle. Covering the entire page with glue is not an effective method and wastes our resources. For double sided sheets, put a strip of glue down one side of the paper or along the top. This allows you to see both sides of the page! If you come across a “dead” glue stick, please place it in the trashcan. If borrowing a glue stick from Mrs. Wilson, return it to the appropriate container when you are done gluing.
