Filtration has been in common use for many years – PCO is not filtration (Capture) Photolysis is understood and used in multiple applications throughout the world – PCO is not Photolysis (Cleaning/ surfaces) Photocatalysis (PCO) using a semi-conductor such as titanium dioxide (TiO²) has been known and pursued for at least twenty-five years but it had application and production constraints – until NOW! PCO produces natures soap - Hydroxyls PCO is all three… Capture, Cleaning and Conversion.

Has been rigorously tested by many certified labs, such as the Department of the Armys Dugway Proving Grounds and RTI International Mold: Aspergillus versicolor and Aspergillus niger have both been tested with similar results… Genesis Air GAP photocatalysis process averages 93.5% in a single pass removal rate with no viable airborne fungal spores. Bacteria: Bacillus atrophaeus (anthracis), Staphylococcus epidermidis (Staph), Mycobacterium parafortuitum (Tuberculosis) and Escherichia coli (E.coli) have all four been tested with the Genesis Air GAP system and were able to remove or neutralize better than 98% single pass of airborne bacterial spores. Viruses: MS2 (MRSA) was the primary virus testing agent. Dugway Proving Grounds stated no MS2 was found after each challenge. RTI International gave the Genesis Air GAP unit 2008B a 275 CARm (Clear Air Rate microbiological) rating for MS2. VOCs / Odors: VOCs like Benzene, Styrene, Toluene, Formaldehyde and Carbon Monoxide have been successfully tested reducing the level of VOCs. GAP Three step synergistic approach / Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO) / Proven, leading-edge technology / Safe – no ozone or by-products, no accumulation of chemical contaminants; converts toxic substances to benign / Scalable - GAP can be engineered to any size air stream. Hospital-associated outbreaks usually occuring during periods of construction or renovation, when increased environmental contamination with Aspergillus species can occur. Although air contamination is often implicated, direct contamination of air-handling systems is unusual. Herein, we describe an outbreak of invasive Aspergillus infection in postsurgical patients that was ultimately traced to a contaminated air-handling system in an operating theater. This investigation of invasive Aspergillus infections among postsurgical patients identified mold contamination in an operating theater air-handling system. Aspergillus species are infrequent but serious causes of nosocomial infection. Although contamination of air-handling systems is uncommon, this outbreak suggested that some modification in current air quality guidelines may be necessary for critical patient care areas, such as oncology wards, icus, and operating theaters. Current guidelines for operating theaters only address total air exchanges per hour, air filtration efficiency, filter location, and monitoring systems to measure pressure drops across filters & air exchange rates. The routine use of airborne particle counts to monitor air quality is not currently recommended. Instead, avoidance of fungal contamination is sought through good construction and maintenance practices. Despite the appropriate implementation of these guidelines by this hospital, an outbreak of Aspergillus infection still occurred. Three Types A – Long Wave Black Light / 400nm-315nm No skin damage – bug zappers, theatrical lighting, tanning booths 98.7% of the UV light from the Sun that reaches Earths surface is A Note: over 98% of UV from Sun is blocked by ozone layer B – Medium Wave / 315nm-280nm Exposure produces vitamin D in the skin – No exposure vitamin D deficiency Over exposure DNA damage (sunburn) – skin repairs by forming melanin (sun tan) C – Short Wave Germicidal / 280nm- 100 Highest energy – most dangerous

The use of UVC lights in a dual role could reduce the risk of: Surface growth on coils and through the removal of bio/film lower energy cost Viable airborne mold and associated toxins, as well as Volatile Organic Compound reduction In this application UVC is used to clean surface and energize a PhotoCatalyst

PCO products generate hydroxyl radicals As shown by independent testing, these hydroxyl radical producing devices at 500fpm reduce/remove mold, bacteria and virus UV lamps alone do not kill mold in 18 at 500fpm. Another benefit is the reduction of VOCs Genesis Air Photocatalytic Oxidation GAP

Examples: Aspergillus versicolor, 500 FPM with 10000 mW/cm 2, needs 14 or 1.67 seconds to kill. Aspergillus niger, 500 FPM with 10000 mW/cm 2, needs 650 or 78.13 seconds to kill. How many seconds residence time does your airhandler have? For a 2 section, at 500 FPM = 0.24 seconds. 10000 mW/cm 2 is at the surface of the lamp. At 4 away from the lamp, needed residence time increases 10-fold.

[2].) Luria, who together with Max Delbruck founded the famous phage group in the United States, was using UV radiation as an experimental probe of gene function during bacteriophage replication. Like Kelner, Dulbecco was exasperated to find that when he stored stacks of agar plates containing UV-irradiated phage-infected cells on his bench, the number of phage survivors varied enormously. Astutely, he noticed that plates on top of the stacks revealed the greatest number of phage plaques. He too eventually realized that he had discovered a light-dependent DNA repair mode [5], which was subsequently termed photoreactivation. It took several more years before photoreactivation was formally shown to be catalyzed by photoreactivating enzyme in a reaction that requires light in the visible range [6]. But importantly, the phenomenon of DNA repair was proved to exist. Cell Research (2008) 18:3-7. © 2008 IBCB, SIBS, CAS All rights reserved 1001-0602/08 $ 30.00 www.nature.com/cr

There are airborne infections, and they have associated costs (MRSA, C. diff, TB, mold, mold fragments and mycotoxins). The use of UVGI lamps alone, while accepted to clean surfaces, will not work in airstreams due to DNA repair. The use of HEPA filters, however, may represent overkill when applied for the control of airborne microbes. In one OR test, a HEPA filter provided no better reduction in airborne bacterial load than a 95-percent dust-spot filter [1]. Furthermore, the combination of UVGI and high-efficiency filters in the MERV-13 to -15 range may be able to provide performance virtually equivalent to HEPA filtration, thus offering health-care facilities the possibility of reducing energy costs without increasing health risks [1].

GAP technology has been developed to remove and neutralize harmful particulate and organic contaminants in air Testing has consistently demonstrated that the Genesis Air GAP system removes and destroys an average of 93.5% of airborne fungal spores, and greater than 98% of airborne bacterial spores The use of UVCGI lamps alone, while accepted to clean surfaces, will not work in airstreams due to DNA repair and required dwell time VOCs are dramatically reduced including Formaldehyde and Carbon Monoxide Genesis Airs GAP technology will protect system components Ideally installed after a good-quality prefilter, and before the coils and other components of the HVAC system. By converting corrosive, toxic vapors before the coils, the coils are kept clean, optimizing cooling and heating efficiency. The UVGI lamps, working together with the photocatalyst, can actually reverse contaminated buildup in the system promoting energy savings and better health The increasing cost of Nosocomial Infections is dramatic… Can you afford to do nothing?
