IARS is a leading, international research and policy Institute that has been providing educational, research, policy and networking services at local, national and international level in the field of Youth – Justice – Equalities “Our mission to give everyone a chance to forge a safer, fairer and more inclusive society.” We are focused on empowering the most marginalised communities including young people, migrants, refugee and asylum-seeking women, victims  through direct service delivery, while enabling organisations to achieve, measure and improve their social impact. To achieve our charitable aims we work directly with communities producing evidence-based solutions to current social problems, sharing best practice and we support young people and the community to shape decision making.

Publishing Services We are a small independent publishing house specialising in social science book and research studies We host 2 independent users Advisory bodies – Youth Advisory Board and Women's Advisory Board

5 Youth Participation – The IARS Way
For years now, IARS has championed a youth-led approach to its programmes so that we can enable young people to actively engage in society and challenge polices and practices affecting them by: Empowering and enabling young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities, to influence, shape and inform policy and practices that affect them, the media and other stakeholders; Providing youth-led accredited skills development training to young people. Providing youth-led policy development, research and voice to the youth-led sector and young people at local, national and European levels. Working with governments and statutory bodies (nationally & European) to ensure that youth issues and the views of the youth-led sector are heard and disseminated.

6 IARS and Young People in Europe
Care2Work: Young Black and Minority Ethnic Carers – Barriers and Opportunities for Employment and Education Care 2 Work is a 2 – year programme (started in May 2015) funded under the new Erasmus+ Key Action 2 in the field of youth that aims to: Tackle the barriers faced by young carers from Black and Minority ethnic groups (BME) in accessing employment, education and training. Empower young BME carers by recognising and cultivating skills developed through caring and turning them into a sustainable skill-set that can be transferred to employment. Increase the capacity of service providers, youth professionals and educational services in the areas of integration, equity, inclusion and discrimination. Promote cultural and institutional change that can be embedded within our modern European societies. The partnership The programme is designed and delivered in partnership with our 3 European Partners, namely: Anziani e non solo (Italy), Linnaeus University (Sweden) and the Family and Children Care Centre (Greece). The IARS International Institute acts as a Coordinator

Abused No More “Safeguarding Youth and Empowering Professionals” (“AnM”) Assess the legal literacy of marginalised youth at risk of social exclusion in the UK, in relation to multiple and intersectional discrimination. Particular emphasis was put on different types of abuse faced by young migrant women. Bridge gaps in existing services in relation to anti-discrimination and training needs of young marginalised people and inform the development of a youth-led evidence based training programme for marginalised youth and service providers. Promote youth empowerment by providing marginalised youth with an opportunity to take a leadership role in the design and implementation of the research and to inform the design of a training programme that meets their immediate needs with regard to discrimination The partnership The project is delivered in partnership with four other countries and in particular Stowarzyszenie Interwencji Prawnej (Poland) - Action for Equality, Support, Antiracism - KISA (Cyprus) - Anziani e Non Solo (Italy) - Romanian U.S. Alumni Association (Romania)

8 Youth Empowerment and Innovation Project
The Youth Empowerment and Innovation project (YEIP) is a 3-year Erasmus+ funded project (KA3 - Policy Experimentation) that aims to design a positive policy prevention framework for tackling and preventing marginalisation and violent radicalisation among young people in Europe. Partnering with 21 organisations across Europe including local authorities, national ministries and NGOs YEIP will be implemented through the construction and field validation of tools (YEIP PREVENT model/ interventions, toolkit, training) in 4 environments - schools, - universities - Youth Offending Institutions - online in 8 EU member states.

9 Southwark Youth Now “SYN”
IARS and Young People in Southwark Southwark Youth Now “SYN” SYN is a 2 year youth led-project that aims to deliver high quality youth services to vulnerable and marginalised young people who are more likely to be disengaged with particular focus on young people from Black and Minority Ethnic Communities by: Providing young people with high quality accredited volunteering opportunities including involvement, development and delivery of youth research and policy project of local, national and European remit Involvement at the IARS Youth Advisory Board Organisation of events such as our Research and Youth Leadership Awards Involvement in the 99% Campaign – a youth led initiative that aims to promote positive images of young people Involvement in the development of the 99% Campaign Magazine 2016 Access to free mentoring scheme with professionals from the third and private sector tailored to their needs Providing youth-led accredited training sessions and interactive workshops. The training is built upon the Institute’s youth-led programme and will aim to enable young people to: Raise their voices on issues that affect their realities Influence policy and practise at local, national and European level Improve their knowledge on their rights and responsibilities as young citizens Receive Youth Pass Certification that can boost CVs and employment opportunities.

10 Ambition Giving – Southwark Young Leaders
IARS and Young People in Southwark Ambition Giving – Southwark Young Leaders SYL is a dedicated project to our Youth Advisory Board. Through a 30-hour structured training sessions based on the IARS Rights and Responsibilities Training Programme, the project aims Build the capacity of the YAB to conduct outreach activities Build the capacity of the YAB to deliver training to their peers

11 EURODESK UK The Eurodesk UK website gives tailored information for young people aged on the different opportunities available in Europe and an insight into what it’s like to take part in European youth projects. We also support young people directly through the European Youth Portal. The UK team is part of a wider European network with national representatives in 34 countries EVS - This is a scheme funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission to give young people in Europe the chance to volunteer abroad. It enables young people aged 17 to 30 years to live up to 12 months in another country while working in a non-profit organisation. 12 99% Campaign www.99percentcampaign.org
The 99% Campaign is a youth-led initiative and digital participation programme aiming to make society more inclusive, fair and responsive to young people’s views and realities. It achieves its mission by giving direct voice to the most marginalised young people and by dispelling negative stereotypes. It aims to: “Disadvantage thinking” about young people is addressed and positive stories are promoted  Discrimination, negative perceptions and stereotypes about young people are tackled within  society, political institutions and service providers. New youth opportunities are created while current opportunities are highlighted and enhanced. 99% Campaigners receive high quality volunteering and internship opportunities, and through training, mentoring, accreditation and support they become role models and leaders within their communities.

14 ROLE OF THE YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD
The YAB consists of 29 young volunteers aged 15 – 25 from different backgrounds and circumstances who are aware of the problems facing young people in today’s society and who are interested in an opportunity to do something positive about these issues. Their role: Key governance and project feature of IARS that meets on a regular basis to scrutinize, quality control and monitor our work, and advise on our strategy. YAB members are awarded with a certificate for their active participation at the end of the project and they are provided with bespoke and tailored training that will allow them to genuinely get involved in projects and our governance.
