The animals of Australia appear in all Aboriginal Dreamtime stories and paintings. They help to pass on important messages. Tiddalik the Frog is a character from one Dreamtime story that has been told for thousands of years. He’s also called Tiddalik the flood maker.

Water-holding frogs drink and absorb water through their skin until their bodies become a bigger and bigger store of water. Once their bodies are full of water they can live for a long time in a dry desert.

When he had finished, all the land was dry.
Then he dragged himself onto a rock and just sat there, full of water.

He still sits today on the top of a hill near Wollombi
New South Wales.
