1 How can you find the height of the Eiffel Tower?
STEM Project How can you find the height of the Eiffel Tower? Nick Felix, Thomas Tsangou

2 The goal of using this application:
We chose the application of sine, cosine, and tangent functions to show how simple it is to find the height of tall object using the angle of elevation or depression, which would be dangerous or impossible to measure otherwise.

3 SOH = Sine is Opposite over Hypotenuse
CAH = Cosine is Adjacent over Hypotenuse TOA = Tangent is Opposite over Adjacent

4 C 3.4 Find the length of AC Find the length of BC
An individual standing at point A with an angle of elevation of 86.6° would like to know at what height the Eiffel Tower stands. The distance between the individual and the Eiffel Tower is 63 meters C 3.4 Find the length of AC Find the length of BC Find Angle C in degrees ? ? 86.6 B A 63m

5 How did we find the angle of elevation?
Since many object or too tall to be measured the conventional way, scientists came up with a Clinometer. This instrument is used for measuring angles of elevation and depression of an object based on the gravity’s direction. The device can easily be make using a compass, a straw, a string, and a weight.

6 How did we find the distance?
We simply used google maps and measured the distance between two points, and in our case it was to find the distance of ‘AB’, which is half of meters, hence, 63 meters

7 How to find the height (Procedure)
Side BC Tan(3.4°)=63/BC Cross multiply° BC*Tan(3.4°)=63 BC*(Tan(3.4°))/(Tan(3.4°)=6/(Tan(3.4°) BC=6/(Tan(3.4°) BC= Side AC Sin(3.4°)=63/AC Cross multiply° AC*Sin(3.4°)=63 AC*(Sin(3.4°))/(Sin(3.4°)=6/(Sin(3.4°) AC=6/(Sin(3.4°) AC=

8 Angles Sides A = 86.6° BC= 1060.41 B = 90° AC = 1062.28 C = 3.4°
AB = 63m ? ? 86.6 B A 63m
