Basic Principles: Immunological Comparisons for Classification
A protein from one animal may cause an immune reaction in another if it is ‘recognised’ as foreign. The immune reaction involves the production of antibodies. If we mix the antibodies with similar proteins from different animals, the more agglutination we see, the more similar the proteins.
