What are weak forms? Closed group of words which have both a strong form and a weak form e.g. Can you swim? Yes, I can usually function words not needed to transmit meaning of a speaker’s message = the opposite of content words: auxiliaries, modals, prepositions, conjunctions

“all strong form” pronunciation sounds unnatural and foreign sounding
Why are they important? “all strong form” pronunciation sounds unnatural and foreign sounding difficulty in understanding connected speech When are they used ? probably most of the time! However, not in the following cases when we prefer the STRONG form: when found at the end of sentences when used in contrast when used in emphasis
