4. Challenges for the users
Imagine two collaborators in two different countries
Which services are available to them end to end ?
What are the business models along the delivery chain ?
Who pays what to whom?
Now imagine having 10 users in 10 countries…
How do users work their way through the labyrinth ?

5. GÉANT user liaison function
Co-ordination functions towards the “users”:
international organisations: real and virtual
International projects or collaborations
Discuss and understand user requirements
Co-ordinate the formulation of solutions for the user
Technical, organisational, financial
Be “the voice of the customer/user” within GÉANT
Works in tight co-operation with “lead NREN”

6. How do we do it ?
Extensive dialogues with representative of users to understand “how they work” and “what do they need to do”
As opposed to “what do they need ?”
Translate into networking requirements
Co-ordinate discussion with all relevant stakeholders, above all each NREN
Involve Subject Matter Experts (e.g. AAI,…)
Formulate information on architectures, services needed, financial information, operational models
