It was a lovely spring day. The sun shone into Jane's room. Jane woke up and got changed. She went into the garden to check on her plants. They had all grown quite big but every leaf had a bite in it. She went to go and look at her father's plants, and they where just the same. she went to go and tell her father about the damage. he said that it was probably snails because they have 14,000 teeth on there tongues, and can do a lot of damage in one night.

Jane's father told her to finish off her breakfast and then they would go and check the damage of the plants.they went in to the garden and looked at the plants. Jane`s dad saw an anvil and pointed to it to show the children. Jane asked" what is an anvil?" and father replied " an anvil is a rock that a thrust uses to crack the shell of a snail". Wow, thought the children, we would love to see that, so father said " lets keep watch in the summer house". they didn't have to wait long until the thrush came along with a fat snail in his beak. then the thrush starts using the anvil and bits of shell go flying every where. Jane`s dad says " it looks like we don't have to deal with the snail because the thrush has dealt with them already"
