Manna, the Sabbath and Yahusha the Messiah
The Bread From Heaven Manna, the Sabbath and Yahusha the Messiah
3
The Grumbling Begins Then Mosheh led Yisrael from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) So the people grumbled against Mosheh, saying, "What are we to drink?" Shemot/Exodus 15:22-24
4
With Yah There is Always a Solution
Then Mosheh cried out to Yahuwah, and Yahuwah showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There Yahuwah made a decree and a law for them, and there he tested them. He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of Yahuwah your Elohim and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Mitzrites, for I am Yahuwah, who heals you." Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water. Shemot/Exodus 15:25-27
5
The Grumbling Continues
The whole community of the sons of Yisrael set out from Elim and came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had come out of Mitzrayim. In the desert the whole community grumbled against Mosheh and Aharon. Shemot/Exodus 16:1-2
6
Bread From Heaven The sons of Yisrael said to them, "If only we had died by Yahuwah's hand in Mitzrayim! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death." Then Yahuwah said to Mosheh, "I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. Shemot/Exodus 16:3-4
7
Instructions For Gathering
On the sixth day they are to prepare what they bring in, and that is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days." So Mosheh and Aharon said to all the sons of Yisrael, "In the evening you will know that it was Yahuwah who brought you out of Mitzrayim, and in the morning you will see the glory of Yahuwah, because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we, that you should grumble against us?" Shemot/Exodus 16:5-7
8
Instructions Mosheh also said, "You will know that it was Yahuwah when he gives you meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we? You are not grumbling against us, but against Yahuwah." Then Mosheh told Aharon, "Say to the entire Congregation of the sons of Yisrael, 'Come before Yahuwah, for he has heard your grumbling.'" Shemot/Exodus 16:8-9
9
Instructions While Aharon was speaking to the whole community of the sons of Yisrael, they looked toward the desert, and there was the glory of Yahuwah appearing in the cloud. Yahuwah said to Mosheh, "I have heard the grumbling of the sons of Yisrael. Tell them, 'At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am Yahuwah your Elohim.'“ Shemot/Exodus 16:10- 12
10
What? ManHu? That evening quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp. When the dew was gone, thin flakes like frost on the ground appeared on the desert floor. When the sons of Yisrael saw it, they said to each other, "What is it?" For they did not know what it was. Mosheh said to them, "It is the bread Yahuwah has given you to eat. Shemot/Exodus 16:13-15
11
Gathering the Manna This is what Yahuwah has commanded: 'Each one is to gather as much as he needs. Take an omer for each person you have in your tent.'" The sons of Yisrael did as they were told; some gathered much, some little. And when they measured it by the omer, he who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little. Each one gathered as much as he needed. Shemot/Exodus 16:16-18
12
Not to Keep it Until Morning
Then Mosheh said to them, "No one is to keep any of it until morning." However, some of them paid no attention to Mosheh; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell. So Mosheh was angry with them. Each morning everyone gathered as much as he needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away. Shemot/Exodus 16:19-21
13
Instructions For Sabbath
On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much-- two omers for each person-- and the leaders of the community came and reported this to Mosheh. He said to them, "This is what Yahuwah commanded: 'Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to Yahuwah. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.'" So they saved it until morning, as Mosheh commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it. Shemot/Exodus 16:22-24
14
Instructions For 7th Day
"Eat it today," Mosheh said, "because today is a Sabbath to Yahuwah. You will not find any of it on the ground today. Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any." Nevertheless, some of the people went out on the seventh day to gather it, but they found none. Shemot/Exodus 16:25-27
15
Resting on the Seventh Day
Then Yahuwah said to Mosheh, "How long will you refuse to keep my commands and my instructions? Bear in mind that Yahuwah has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where he is on the seventh day; no one is to go out.“ So the people rested on the seventh day. Shemot/Exodus 16:28-30
16
A Testimony Shemot/Exodus 16:31-33
The people of Yisrael called the bread manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey. Mosheh said, "This is what Yahuwah has commanded: 'Take an omer of manna and keep it for the generations to come, so they can see the bread I gave you to eat in the desert when I brought you out of Mitzrayim.'“ So Mosheh said to Aharon, "Take a jar and put an omer of manna in it. Then place it before Yahuwah to be kept for the generations to come." Shemot/Exodus 16:31-33
17
An Omer As Yahuwah commanded Mosheh, Aharon put the manna in front of the Testimony, that it might be kept. The sons of Yisrael ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was settled; they ate manna until they reached the border of Canaan. (An omer is one tenth of an ephah.) Shemot/Exodus 16:34-36
18
A Test of Obedience Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that Yahuwah promised on oath to your forefathers. Remember how Yahuwah your Elohim led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. Devarim/Deuteronomy 8:1-2
19
Lesson Learned? He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of Yahuwah. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Devarim/Deuteronomy 8:3-4
20
The Discipline of a Father
Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so Yahuwah your Elohim disciplines you. Observe the commands of Yahuwah your Elohim, walking in his ways and revering him. Devarim/Deuteronomy 8:5-6
21
The Good Father Intends For Us
He led you through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock. He gave you manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you. Devarim/Deuteronomy 8:15-16
22
Even Mosheh Complained!
When the dew settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down. Mosheh heard the people of every family wailing, each at the entrance to his tent. Yahuwah became exceedingly angry, and Mosheh was troubled. He asked Yahuwah, "Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me? Numbers 11:9-11
23
Even Mosheh Complained!
Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their forefathers? Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, 'Give us meat to eat!' I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me. Numbers 11:12-14
24
Waaa! Too Much to Bear? If this is how you are going to treat me, put me to death right now-- if I have found favor in your eyes-- and do not let me face my own ruin." Numbers 11:15
25
How Much Bread Would It Take?
But Mosheh said, "Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, 'I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!' Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?" Yahuwah answered Mosheh, "Is Yahuwah's arm too short? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you.“ Numbers 11:21-23
26
How Much Bread Would It Take?
When Yahusha looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" Lazarus (John) 6:5-7
27
How Much Bread Would It Take?
Another of his disciples, Andrew, Shimon Kepha's brother, spoke up, "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" Yahusha said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and the men sat down, about five thousand of them. Lazarus (John) 6:8-10
28
How Much Bread Would It Take?
Yahusha then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. Lazarus (John) 6:11-13
29
How Much Bread Would It Take?
Once the crowd realized that neither Yahusha nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Yahusha. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?“ Yahusha answered, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Lazarus (John) 6:24-26
30
How Much Bread Would It Take?
Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him Elohim the Father has placed his seal of approval." Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works Elohim requires?" Yahusha answered, "The work of Elohim is this: to believe in the one he has sent." Lazarus (John) 6:27-29
31
How Much Bread Would It Take?
So they asked him, "What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" Yahusha said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Mosheh who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. Lazarus (John) 6:30-32
32
Bread of Life For the bread of Elohim is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." "Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread." Then Yahusha declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. Lazarus (John) 6:33-35
33
Flesh to Eat? But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." Then the Yehudim began to argue sharply among themselves, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" Lazarus (John) 6:50-52
34
Real Food Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Lazarus (John) 6:54-56
35
The Real Bread From Heaven
Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever." He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. Lazarus (John) 6:57-59
