Figure 1 Mycobacterial Disruption of Inflammasome Activation and Phagosome Maturation Infection with M. tuberculosis triggers IPAF inflammasome including the adaptor ASC and caspase-1 (Casp-1) (1). Inflammasome activation results in IL-1β processing and release of IL-1β that is followed by the engagement of its receptor (IL-1R) (2). IL-1R signaling promotes phagosome maturation that ultimately leads to phagolysosome fusion and bacterial degradation (3). M. tuberculosis encoding the zmp1 gene prevents phagosome maturation by inhibiting inflammasome activation, thus increasing M. tuberculosis survival.
