**After you have read this newsletter, write a note in your student’s planner for Monday telling us their favorite fruit and they will receive a Titan Ticket.**
We have been focusing on the trait of Curiosity for the last 2 weeks and will move into Initiative – taking action to help ourselves without being asked.
Mr. Hoelscher read a book about bullying to each 4th grade class this week. He pushed us to think about four questions: Why do people bully? What do bullies do? How should you respond to bullies? Have you been a bully or been bullied? Please have a conversation with your child about these important questions.
Reminder that our daily snacks need to follow the healthy body pillar. If your child will be having snack at school, please make sure it is a healthy choice.

2. What we are learning in Literacy What we are learning in Math
Social Studies
We will spend 3rd Quarter focusing on Social Studies. Our learning will be guided by the following questions:
What motivates people to seek other lands?
How have the Americas changed over time?
How do people and the environment interact?
What we are learning in Literacy
In the next couple weeks we will begin the research process as we explore topics that interest us. We will also be learning how to tackle unfamiliar and difficult vocabulary words.
We are moving into deeper writing and will begin writing thesis statements that lead into persuasive essays.
What we are learning in Math
We have now moved into working on decimals and going to the tenths and hundredths place. Also, learning how to rewrite those decimals as fractions and fractions as decimals.
Next week we will be getting to our Unit 3 Post-Assessment and then moving right into Unit 4 where we will start covering Place Value and the Standard Addition Algorithm. We will look at numbers to 1 million, round and compare, and look at different addition strategies.

3. We will be having a Valentine’s Celebration on Tuesday, February 14th in the afternoon. We will be working to create containers here at school, so there is no need to worry about doing this at home. You DO NOT have to bring treats to share, but we do ask you bring enough for your entire homeroom if you do bring something. Below are the lists of students in each homeroom.
