Language Arts Pre AP -Academically advanced curriculum which is built on the core curriculum Use the Springboard program designed by college board Incorporates reading and writing encouraging rigor and higher level thinking skills Developed to prepare students for AP course work and PSAT and SAT testing Pre AP students are self motivated learners! My students are expected to read 30 minutes each night Monday to Friday, and respond in their reader’s notebooks

Reading Workshop Reading Workshop- 70 minutes each day
5-10 minute warm up- critical thinking question 10-15 minute mini-lesson 25 independent reading (small groups, conferencing) 15 minute read aloud with accountable talk 5 minute close/share **Library every Tuesday! Students are expected to read and take AR tests. It should not take longer than 2 weeks to finish a book. Rewards are given each 9 weeks for AR reading

Poetry Analysis Students keep a Poetry Folder. Each week we analyze and dive deep into the elements of poetry.

Knowsys SAT Prep Vocabulary Builder Program- 30 groups of about 10 words each. Students learn a group a week. Quizzes are on Tuesdays. Words are kept in their vocabulary spiral. Students should study 10 minutes each night and use the words in their writing while identifying them in their reading.

Classroom Expectations
Keep TIS safe and clean. Show respect in your words and actions. Keep hands, feet, objects and inappropriate comments to yourself. Allow teaching and learning to take place at all times. 5. Follow PAWS procedures and expectations.

HOMEWORK Students are expected to read nightly for 30 minutes or more, keep track of pages and minutes on their reading log, and respond in their Reader’s Notebook. Weekly papers go home in the Wednesday folder. Please check it weekly. Students are expected to complete all assigned homework which will be recorded in the planner.
