Essential Questions: How can I support a claim with logical reasons and relevant evidence from texts? Standard: ELASE6RI1 – Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. Learning Targets: Identify claims. Elect your position on these claims. Support your claim with logical reasoning and relevant evidence.

School-wide Literacy Lessons – Day 3 Review the steps for days 1 & 2. If you did not complete any part of the steps for these days, go back and complete those steps now. Day 3: Step 1 – Compose your own thesis. Thesis – a statement or theory put forth to be proved Write your thesis in the “Thesis” box on your writing map handout. Day 3: Step 2 – Identify three reasons to support your thesis. Write these on your writing map handout and staple it to your packet. Day 3: Step 3 – Identify three pieces of textual evidence (from the articles) for each of your reasons from step 2. You will have a total of 9 pieces of evidence. Day 3: Step 4 – Develop your conclusion.

School-wide Literacy Lessons – Day 3 WHEN YOU FINISH ALL STEPS FROM ALL DAYS: Check to see that you did, in fact, answer all steps on all days; Staple your writing map handout and any notebook paper to your packet; Put your name on ALL documents, whether they are stapled together or not; Place all items inside of your writing portfolio; and Place your writing portfolio back on the shelf. They will not all fit in the homework bin.

Independent Reading You should be on your FIFTH book of this school year, at least. Your next Biblionasium book review will be due Friday, January 26, 2018. Be sure that you have completed your book before Friday, January 26, 2018! Homework: Finish any incomplete steps from today.
