John 3:19-20 – men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. They hate the light lest their deeds be exposed

Romans 1:22-32 – professing wisdom, they changed the glory of God into idols. Worshipped and served “the creature” instead of the Creator
Depraved conduct – homosexuality, unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, etc.
Those who practice such are worthy of death – and they approve…

5. Works of Darkness 2 Timothy 3:1-9 – the list of selfishness
In the last days, perilous times will come
Lovers of themselves – prideful
Lovers of money – greedy, materialistic
Boasters, blasphemers, unholy – bragging of ungodly behavior
Disobedient to parents

Unloving – “without natural affection”
Slanderers, unforgiving – not wanting peace
Without self-control – addicted
Brutal – craving violence
Despisers of good – Isaiah 5:20

Headstrong – stubborn and unwilling to consider others
Haughty – arrogant, conceited
Lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – Isaiah 30:9-10, Jeremiah 5:26-31

Having a form of godliness, but denying its power – professed spirituality, but rejecting God and the Bible!

Men of corrupt minds - disapproved by God

Adultery – unlawful relations involving one who is married – cf. Matthew 19:8-9, Romans 7:1-2, etc. (Not in early mss – or NASB)
Fornication (Sexual immorality) – any unlawful relations – premarital, homosexuality, bestiality, adultery, etc. Hebrews 13:4

Uncleanness – a more general word for filthy or vile behavior (esp. sensual sins) - incl. pornography, immodesty, indecent exposure, filthy language, dance moves, etc. 1 Thessalonians 4:7
Lewdness (Sensuality, lasciviousness) – unrestrained, depraved conduct – see above examples carried to extremes
We are living in times where sensual behaviors are treated as acceptable and even encouraged. Our entertainment industry, beaches, Hollywood, the progressive mindset all appeal to fleshly gratification.

Idolatry – worshipping anything other than God. Cf. Colossians 3:5
Sorcery – includes the “dark arts” and Satanism. Can also include drug use.
Hatred – hateful behavior and attitudes
Contentions – constant strife and disagreement

Jealousies, outbursts of wrath – e.g. road rage, crimes of passion, etc. Ephesians 4:26-27
Selfish ambitions – the “win at any cost” attitude, “me first”, etc.
Dissension – general discord that leads to division.
Factions (heresies – KJV) – dividing into sects or cliques, often the result of doctrinal differences

Envy – strong jealousy demonstrated
Murders – the taking of life unlawfully (Don’t forget God’s laws – e.g. abortion, etc.)
Drunkenness – excessive drinking or substances that result in loss of sobriety
Revelries – drinking parties and occasions that can lead to the above
