3 American Public Health Association (APHA)
The American Public Health Association was founded in 1872, during a time in which diseases were prevalent ― allowing for many scientific advances to help find cures. This became the foundation for public health profession and what the APHA represents. APHA’S important functions consist of Advocating for public health through the most current scientific advances Promoting public health education in order to improve community health Developing well-organized health departments at both the federal and local levels Jasmine Values: Reflect the beliefs of our members from all disciplines of public health for over 40 countries. These values include community, science and evidence-based decision making, health equity, and prevention and wellness.

4 American Public Health Association (APHA)
What is their mission? “Improve the health of the public and achieve equity in health status.” Vision: How will they achieve their mission? “Create the healthiest nation in one generation.” How does APHA benefit the public? Science: Public health professionals meet each year to discuss their most recent research, ideas, and disciplines; keeping information up-to-date. Health: APHA fosters the idea of “health in all policies” Action: Advocates for laws at a federal level that will advance public health. Advocates for funding of critical health programs. Provides educational opportunities for health professionals. Jasmine Vision: the US spends more on healthcare than any other nation yet we still struggle with health issues. APHA wants to change this through advocacy and programs that have scientific research and evidence that proves to work. They also make sure that the collective public health voice is heard. Health: through building partnerships and connecting with groups outside of the public health community (community planners, transportation, K-12 education) Action (educational): provide educational opportunities so professionals can maintain their certifications and expand their areas of expertise.

Affiliated with the American Public Health Association (APHA) Provides public health leadership to improve health promotion, lower risk for injury and diseases, and promote public health policy efforts in Southern CA Counties: Imperial, Kern, LA, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura Important functions: Advocates for healthy environments Promotes best-practice strategies Improve the expertise of members in promoting and protecting environmental and community health

Founded in 1937 as a subset of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD). Goals: Develop standards, resources, and services regarding health education to professionals and nonprofessionals Help with the development of national research in health education and promotion A way for the professionals, public, and other national and international organizations to communicate and share their findings with one another Provide assistance to legislative and professional bodies drafting pertinent legislation and related guidelines Provide leadership in promoting policies and procedures that will result in effect health education programs Develop and mobilize resources for effective health education and promotion AAHPERD is now actually shape america and it focuses on enabling children to lead healthy lifestyles through physical and health education programs. Goals: 2. Provide different methods of putting theory and research into practice and practice into theory and research. 4. Because of the amount of information they have on health education and promotion, they help legislators make an outline of new guidelines and such.

What are the benefits? Some benefits include Sex ed being mandatory in grades 7-12th in california National STD awareness month and National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day Biggest achievement National STD awareness month is April and National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day is April 10 Access to resources including: Guest speakers Health education websites Membership information & Costs $25/year Being a member allows you to vote on board of directors meetings No publications Sex ed has been required to be taught in schools but because there was no strict curriculum, some districts would pick and choose what information they would teach and leave out. As of 2014, the CASHE has made legislature recognize April as National STD awareness month and April 10 as National Youth HIV & AIDS awareness Day This helped the educate the people of the united states more about the topic of STDs and how it can affect the health of the people if left untreated. Guest Speakers and websites → provides a list of guest speakers and website that could help a health educator with their curriculum and provide answers to questions their students might have. Membership → it is recommended that you register with the CASHE first in order for the board of directors to contact you about membership. In 2012, they took out the membership application online and instead people who want to join have to either register or the president of the CAHSE. Other than that, i didn't find anything else on membership on the website.

Weekly alerts in new research and tools that can assist teachers, or anyone involved in the health education programs. Diverse subject matter Publications The Journal of School Health (JOSH) Christina Vision: “The ASHA envisions healthy students who learn and achieve in safe and healthy environments nurtured by caring adults functioning within coordinated school and community support systems.” Diverse subjects such as adolescent health, bullying and suicide, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, obesity, nutrition, etc. The Journal of School Health is a published peer-reviewed journal that provides information regarding roles of schools, school personnel, or the school environment. It also focuses on the importance of health in the youth by going over health and physical education, health and nutrition services, counseling, and more.
