Another take on the quadrant plots. On the plot on the following, the points that fall in one of these four quadrant can be described as above. Market growth is measured by the change in US employment in the sector, while market share is measured by the change in the region’s share of national employment in the sector.

Growth-share matrix The purpose here is to give a rough sense of the distribution of detailed sectors according to a growth share matrix shown on the previous slide. Market growth is measured by the change in US employment in the sector, while market share is measured by the change in the region’s specialization ratio, which is highly correlated with changes in the regional share of national employment in the sector. In sum, is the sector growing at the national level and is the region’s share of national employment growing (Change in the specialization ratio)? This matrix helps identify where the sectors in a region may fall. Due to the number of data points, sector names are not labeled, but sectors are coded (color) by broad cluster identity. This matrix is summarized on the tables that appear on the next few slides using category groupings.
