Degradation of DNA scaffolds by the nuclease NucA allows GBS to evade killing by neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). Degradation of c-di-AMP by CdnP limits STING activation (lower left and right panels); however, bacterial DNA sensed by cGAS still promotes STING activation via production of 2′3′-cGAMP.
