1 2-D Representations of Solids

2 Some parts of the solid may not be seen.
Orthographic Views of Solids We cannot have a complete understanding of a solid from its 2-D representation because it could only show the view of the solid observed from one direction. Some parts of the solid may not be seen.

3 and the top of the solid as below.
In order to know more about the shape of the solid, three 2-D representations are drawn according to the views taken from the front, the side and the top of the solid as below. top top view front side front view side view

4 orthographic views of the solid
top view front view side view top view orthographic views of the solid top front side front view side view By putting these three views together on a grid paper as shown, orthographic views of the solid is obtained.

5 Suppose the following solid is given, we can draw its orthographic views on grid paper.
front view side view top view front

6 Follow-up question Draw the orthographic views for the following solid on the grid paper provided. 1. top view front view side view front

7 Follow-up question Draw the orthographic views for the following solid on the grid paper provided. 2. 1 cm top view front view side view 1 cm 1 cm 2 cm 1 cm 1 cm front 1 cm 1 cm

8 Identifying Solids from their Orthographic Views
front view side view top view We can sketch the solid from its orthographic views. (i) Sketch the front view of the solid first. (ii) Complete the solid according to its side view and top view. (iii) Check whether the solid obtained matches the given dimensions.

9 Follow-up question According to the orthographic views on the right, sketch the corresponding solid in the space provided, front view side view Solution top view
