Recent modifications of the validation rules
Fine-tuning modifications (see details in room document) for harmonisation purposes to avoid potential conflicts between rules Last version of the Guidelines (January 2013) : changes for A3, A7, A8 and E2 Modifications foreseen for the next issue : changes for A6, A7 and A8 Datasets with similar structure should have comparable checks 9-10 November 2011 Meeting of the Working Group on Rail Transport Statistics 6-7 November 2013 e.g. for a given dataset, a rule checking that a value should be null and another rule checking that this value should be present

Future simplification of the validation rules
Aim: simplifying validation reducing the length of the quality reports & burden for the countries Principles for the simplification of the validation rules rules to be merged mirror rules related to different reference years mirror rules not available but not to be added new mirror rules to be added Rules not available yet in the validation process Rules related to Annexes F&G collected every 5 years 9-10 November 2011 Meeting of the Working Group on Rail Transport Statistics 6-7 November 2013 Exact mirror rules Mirror rules to be created respecting the reference years to ensure coherence between checks and deadlines for data provision

Future simplification of the validation rules
Reduction of the data validation against Annex I Currently, Annex I used for defining if data can be disseminated in Eurobase Three possibilities Data availability then checked in related Annex(es) Issue: delays if Annex I data not available/validated, even if transport data are available Proposal: take into consideration actual data provision instead of Annex I information (such developments are currently under preparation) 9-10 November 2011 Meeting of the Working Group on Rail Transport Statistics 6-7 November 2013 Detailed and simplified reporting regimes Detailed reporting regime only Simplified reporting only

Impact of the new version of the Regulation
Current set of validation rules to be reviewed/revised specific quality reports for the transition period deletion of all checks related to Annexes B, D, H and I deletion of all checks related to tables C1 and C2 adaptation of the checks performed on Annexes A, C, E definition and implementation of new checks for the new Annex L To take into consideration the removal of Annex I and of simplified reporting No more transmission of provisional data 9-10 November 2011 Meeting of the Working Group on Rail Transport Statistics 6-7 November 2013 To assess the data coherence between the two Regulations Discontinuation of Annexes H and I & simplified reporting
