1 Warm Up A nationwide survey found that the mean number of hours per week a parent volunteers at their child’s elementary school is 4.5. The median was about 1 hour per week (data is heavily skewed). A survey of 50 randomly selected parents at Graystone Elementary found the mean number of hours parents volunteered was 5.8 with a standard deviation of 3.6. Again the median was about 1 hour per week. Construct a significance test to determine if the mean hours per week parents volunteer at Graystone is more than at other schools. (a = 0.05)

2 Practice A survey of 100 randomly selected adult Americans included the following question: “If the military draft were re-instated, would you favor or oppose drafting women as well as men?” 41% responded they would favor drafting women as well as men. 1) Is this statistically significant evidence that less than half of adult Americans favor drafting women? Use a = ) Construct a 95% confidence interval for the proportion of Americans that favor drafting women. Is this significant evidence less than half of adults favor drafting women? (Assume conditions are met in both cases.)
